I recently began physical therapy for a back injury. My physical therapist has been talking a lot about the muscles that are supporting muscles for the back. He says one of the best things I can do for my back is to develop the muscles which play a large role in supporting my back.
It made me think of my walk with The Lord. My walk with Him is largely affected by developing the muscles of support for my walk. Some of those are the muscles of prayer, Bible Study, community, accountability and serving.
1 Timothy 4:7-8 in The Message Translation says: “Exercise daily in God—no spiritual flabbiness, please! Workouts in the gymnasium are useful, but a disciplined life in God is far more so, making you fit both today and forever. You can count on this. Take it to heart.”
I guess this is a reminder that my soul needs physical therapy too…a reminder to continually and intentionally work on the supporting muscles of my walk with Jesus!
